Int'l Buddhist Conference: human values

The Island (island.lk)
Human values in Buddhist perspective was the theme of the Fourth Biennial International Buddhist Conference of the Sri Lanka Association of Buddhist Studies (SLABS).

The conference was held from Dec. 10-12, 2010. The venue was the Sri Lanka Int'l Buddhist Academy in Pallekele. SLABS and SIBA jointly hosted 192 Buddhist scholar participants and observers from the USA, India, Ladakh, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, UK, Thailand, Burma, and Sri Lanka. There were all together 122 paper presenters of which 53 were foreigners and 69 Sri Lankans.

It seemed as if the rain god [sky deva] suddenly decided to hold back the monsoon deluge so the inauguration ceremony could commence under a promising blue sky. Rimmed by mountains, the Academy's campus displayed bright Buddhist flags fluttering in the breeze from the complex of buildings at the foot of the hill up to the buildings at the summit where the conference took place.
